After being rescued from her father by a man named Chief, Harlem goes from one abusive situation to another. Harlem now has a fancy roof over head, plenty of food on the table, and new clothes on her back, but nothing prepares her for Chief's wrath. The one person Harlem thought she could depend on is a young man named Savior, who promised to scoop her up and take her to a better place. Now that Harlem is in Chief's clutches, living happily ever after with Savior seems like just a dream. HARLEM ON LOCK is an emotional and suspenseful tale that engaged me from beginning to end. First-time author Karen Williams did an excellent job creating a story with unforgettable, life-like characters. |
Harlem on Lock is an easy, engaging read. You feel for the main character and the story draws you in. Though the antagonist is unlikeable and you can't wait for him to get what's coming to him---the narrative kept me turning the pages. Hats off to Karen Williams.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: Harlem is a young seventeen year-old girl who has been thru more bad times than good. At an early age, Harlem had it bad from no food in the house,to hustling for her parents to feeding them their drugs, but the ultimate betrayal of prostitution by her father was enough to throw her over the edge. Harlem meets a king-pin named Chief, that lavish her with everything a young girl could want, but poor Harlem learns the hard way that nothing is free in this world and everything has a cost and sometimes even love. When an old friend appears named Savior, a war erupts and Harlem finds herself amongst a war she can no longer fight by herself. This was a sad, but a good read, the humiliation this girl goes thru makes you hurt, cry, and become angry. For it to be the author's first novel I think she did a good job and is moving in the right direction. Keep up the Good Work! |
This read came with a lot of surprises and non-stop action that kept me flipping the pages. It took me about two days to read it, and that was only because I had to go to sleep. This book will surprise you with an ending that was not expected. Make this a part of your collection ASAP! |

"Harlem on Lock" was a fine read. It's about a young girl named Harlem whose parents are drug addicts. After her mother dies, her father begins to prostitute her. Just when Harlem's nightmare begins, she's "rescued" by a drug lord, Chief who turns out to be a bona fide psychopath. Harlem truly really goes through the ringer. Her story really touched me because she was a "good" girl prior to the shattering of her innocence. I loved Savior's character. He was Harlem's knight and shining armor. What a happy ending to such a horrifying tale. Overall, I'd rate the book ****. I look forward to reading Karen's next book. |
Harlem On Lock! What can say. Ms Williams had me shook up for days after finishing this novel. To know what poor Harlem had to endure at the hands of Chief! It was witten so well I felt like I was a fixture in ewvery scene in the book. To say that Ms Williams put her foot in this book is an understatement. She put her heart and soul. I believe she has found her gift: That is storytelling. I would gladly buy more works from this author. She is a writer in every sense of the word writer!
